Avocados

In my humble opinion, avocados should be crowned King of all foods.

I’d bow to its feet every day…and in fact, I do!

5 things to know about avocados :

  1. They’re ranked as one of the top five healthiest foods on the planet and made the list of top protein foods - having the highest protein and lowest sugar content of any fruit

  2. Contain essential, healthy fats - monounsaturated fats - which help regulate and balance our blood sugar and hormone levels, improve our heart and brain health as well as our digestive health

  3. Filled with fat soluble vitamins A, E and K which are essential vitamins to keep our bodies functioning properly

  4. Contain water soluble vitamins B and C which our bodies are unable to store, so must be replenished daily

  5. They’re filled with anti-oxidant phytochemicals - helping to protect us against macular degeneration and cataracts and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients – helping to reduce inflammation in our body

4 reasons why you should eat avocados :

  1. Digestive health | As one of the best fruit sources of fibre, avocados can help positively shift the balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut, and help eliminate waste and toxins from our body, adding bulk to our stool (for easier bathroom time!). The essential monounsaturated fats found in avocados can also help to nourish our gut lining. A must for those of us dealing with leaky gut issues.

  2. Balance blood sugar levels | The monounsaturated fats found in avocados can help to balance our blood sugar levels, blood pressure as well as improve our insulin sensitivity, and as a consequence of eating these healthy fats, our moods are also benefited.

  3. Heart health | Avocados promote heart health by helping to balance our blood lipids because of their fatty acid composition. With its high levels of fibre, magnesium and potassium, avocados have also been shown to help reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure.

  4. Healthy Skin, Eyes and Hair | Rich in fat-soluble vitamins and monounsaturated fats, avocado are wonderful for glowing skin, bright eyes and shiny hair both when eaten or used topically. Carotenoids are the group of antioxidant phytochemicals found in veggies like carrots, squash and sweet potatoes that are known for blocking the effects of environmental toxins like pollution and UV light damage.
