magnesium + baths
Magnesium
An absolutely ESSENTIAL mineral needed for our body to produce TSH (our thyroid stimulating hormone), and unfortunately a mineral that my body (and actually many of us in this world today) are deficient in.
Some of the signs that you could be deficient too, include:
Fatigue
Restless legs (one of my biggest signs)
Dizziness
Stress
Belly bloat
As I write this I’m ticking ALL of the boxes!! Please note - that my blood tests through my naturopath confirmed my deficiency.
Apart from increasing my intake of magnesium rich foods (think dark green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, avocado and raw cacao), I’ve also taken to my bath tub, in a big way, and I couldn’t be happier!
I’m a bath person from way back, so when I discovered that Epsom Salt baths can help replenish our body’s levels of magnesium, I jumped in whole heartily.
Here are just 3 of its benefits
Ease Stress | Did you know that stress can actually drain our bodies of magnesium? By soaking in an Epsom Salt bath, we not only replenish our body’s magnesium level, but we also help promote feelings of calm and relaxation - helping reduce irritability and promoting a good night’s sleep.
Detox | For all you Hashimoto people out there! The naturally occurring sulfates in Epsom Salts help to reduce inflammation, flush our bodies of toxins and heavy metals AND help strengthen the digestive tract.
Smooth Skin| Wonderful for soothing dry, itchy skin - helping to keep it soft and smooth, preventing wrinkles. Another gem for those of you dealing with the effects of Hashimoto’s.
So how to use Epsom Salts?
Step 1: Fill your tub with warm water and add up to 2 cups of Epsom salts to the running water (personally, I find 2 cups a little too much on my body, so I stick to just the 1 cup).
Step 2: Add 1 tbsp carrier oil (like coconut, olive or sweet almond oil)
Step 3: Add a few drops of essential oils (for some tips on using EO’s in your bath, check out my post here!)
Step 4: Sit back, soak and relax
