Armpit Detox

Have you ever made the switch to a natural deodorant, only to find you break out in a rash a few weeks or months later?

My hand is high in the sky.

You see, I made the switch to natural deodorants about 2 years ago when I tested through the roof with aluminium overload.  Each new deodorant I tried would work wonderfully for the first few weeks, then the inevitable rash would appear.  End result = product in bin.

Jeez…what a waste!

And then I read about a new detox cleanse on the scene.

No, I’m not talking about chugging down raw veggie juice here, I’m talking about something so much more fun - an armpit cleanse!

Yep, you heard me.  Doing an armpit cleanse actually helps the removal of chemicals, toxins and heavy metals that have built-up in your body whilst restoring the balance of bacterial to your underarms.

Even though natural deodorants are so much safer for our bodies, making the switch can be tough as not only do your sweat glands (which have been chemically suppressed) start working overtime again, but some of the ingredients in natural deodorants have been known to cause skin irritations – especially when your armpits are already overburdened.

My at home armpit cleanse

1 tbsp Bentonite clay

3 tsp of water (you want a gloopy smooth consistency)

5 drops lemon essential oil or ¼ tsp apple cider vinegar

Steps

Give your armpits a good wash (I do this simply with a face washer)

Whisk together the above ingredients and spread all over your underarms and allow to sit for 10-20 minutes

Jump in the shower and rinse off

Dry off thoroughly after you shower as bacteria thrives in warm damp environments

Repeat daily until you notice less sweating and body odour – approx. a week or two

In need of an extra boost – then apply a little lemon juice or apple cider vinegar with a cotton ball under your armpits after your shower and allow to dry before putting on your deodorant.

Remember, patience is key.  It can take a while for your body to adjust from conventional antiperspirant to natural deodorants, and also remember, our bodies were made to sweat!
