WELLNESS PRINCIPLE 4 : Nutrient Density
One of the most important (and funnily enough most overlooked) factors when on a healing journey, is the focus on nutrient density.
We’re all well aware of the foods that may need to be eliminated or limited when dealing with chronic illness (from gluten to dairy), however ignoring the eating of nutrient-dense foods can be one of the larges obstacles to our healing success. These are foods that are especially high in vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.
To heal, look and feel our best we need to be eating a wide variety of nutrients, and given the poor state of our soil and the overly processed foods of today, it’s more important than ever to pay close attention to the quality of the foods we eat, from eating organic produce to eating mineral-rich produce. Remember, food quality has a large impact on nutrient density.
Why Nutrient Density Matters
Our body’s require around 40 different micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc) for normal metabolic function, so maximising our nutrient density is of huge importance - deficiencies of any of these essential nutrients can unfortunately contribute to the development of chronic disease.
Taking control of your health means becoming more conscious of the foods you are consuming, and removing the ones that are not doing the right thing by you, irrespective of what you are being marketed or have been led to believe over the years. Removing preconceived ideas and learning where you can find the nutrients that your body needs to thrive without anything toxic to your body.
