My "Goodbye Parasite" Granola
Last year you may remember that I had 2 new tenants move into my life.
I named them Boris, but you may know them as Dientamoeba Fragilis and Blastocystis Hominis. Two microscopic parasites found in the intestinal tract of humans.
I’ll be honest with you, after my “bomb the parasite” plan I implemented back then, I thought the boys had packed their bags and left the building. I felt great. Actually, I still feel great. However, going by my latest test results…they’re still with me. Mother fu*kers!
So I’m re-focussing.
Project Exterminate Boris is back in full swing, and I’ll share with you my new plan of action.
Food + Essential Oils
Today, it’s all about the food. I’m talking organic whole food here people. Foods to avoid and foods to embrace. Common sense tells us (and so does my naturopath) that it’s important to consume natural foods that contain anti-parasitic properties during this time, and to increase fibre – helping to improve the body’s elimination process and maintain good bacteria in the gut. Here are some of the organic foods I’ve been embracing (but definitely not limited to):
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil | A strong anti-parasitic agent loaded with medium chain triglycerides, helping our immune system in its battle against parasites. I use coconut oil in all of my cooking, as well as using it in my morning “oil pulling” ritual.
Raw Garlic | Provides sulphur containing amino acids that are also anti-parasitic. I have been adding a whole clove of garlic to my Turmeric Bone Broth drink (see recipe here) to help parasite proof my body. God help my colleagues!
Pepitas | Another great anti-parasitic agent that I’ve been adding to my salads, to my avocado toast, as well as a little crunch to any soups, stir-fry and casseroles I make.
Almonds | Their high concentration of fatty acids helps to cleanse, soothe and reduce any intestinal irritation caused by parasites.
Coconut | It seems their fatty acid (known as lauric acid), which when ingested, converts to monolaurin which can kill or inactivate several species of ringworm and parasites.
Thyme | A great herb for stimulating the thymus - a major gland of the immune system. Oil of thyme can eliminate the growth of many parasites and can kill them in the intestinal tract. Thyme is actually part of the DiGize essential oil blend from Young Living , which I’ve once again been using daily.
For me personally - I did not add any rice malt syrup (or any sweetener) to my batch as I’m not the biggest fan of sweet breakfasts.
Perhaps taste a little before you place the tray in the oven to see what your preference is.
